A community-based mentorship program supporting middle and high school youth in Washington, DC.

Become a Mentor

Show Up. Build Trust. Make An Impact.

Our aim is to support middle and high school youth in Washington, DC, through consistent, trust-based mentoring relationships.


Mentors serve as supportive adults who show up, listen, explore the community with youth, and provide encouragement during critical developmental years. The program combines one-on-one mentoring with group activities and community engagement opportunities.

Who we Serve

  •  Middle and high school students in Washington, DC
  • Spring 2026 focus is grades 6-8
  • With plans to expand to high school Fall 2026 

Who We’re Looking For

Mentors who:

  • Are ready to serve, engage, and show up consistently
  • Enjoy being a positive presence in a young person’s life
  • Are open to community exploration and group activities
  • Can commit to monthly hours and required training
  • Are able to pass a background check

Mentor Commitment

  • Minimum 1-year commitment
  • 6-8 hours per month
  • At least 2 hours in person during the school year
  • At least 4 hours in person during the summer months
  • Combination of:

                         One-on-one mentoring
                        Group activities and community events

  • Activities are coordinated by the program’s social planning committee

Required Training

 All mentors must complete the following prior to being matched:

Mandatory Saturday Trainings

  • February 28 | 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM
     
  • March 14 | 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM 


Additional optional trainings will be offered throughout the spring and summer.


Mandated Reporter Training (Required)

All mentors must independently complete DC Mandated Reporter Training: HERE

Registration instructions:

  • Employment: Other
  • Role: Other
  • Employer: Christ Lutheran Church
  • Reason: Mandated by Employer
  • Use a valid email address to receive your password reset and begin training

Background Check

  • Required for all mentors
  • Paid for by the program
  • Once the application is completed, Ann Marie Nelson will follow up with instructions after you apply.
